On August 6, 2024, the NYC Department for the Aging (NYC Aging) and KPMG, LLP collaborated on a community service event at Brooklyn Borough Hall to support older New Yorkers. The event focused on educating participants about healthy eating and volunteer opportunities through NYC Aging. KPMG volunteers were paired with older adults from Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens neighboring centers, and they participated in a presentation about NYC Aging’s Friendly Visiting Program, which encourages older adults to use their skills to benefit the community. Each participant received a $25 Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) coupon booklet, along with an additional $25 from KPMG, which they used to purchase fresh produce at the Brooklyn Borough Hall Greenmarket.
This event was part of KPMG’s annual Community Impact Day, highlighting the company’s commitment to local community support and service. NYC Aging Commissioner Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez praised the event for promoting healthy living and reducing food insecurity among older adults. Monsignor Alfred P. LoPinto, President and Chief Executive Officer of Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens and affiliates commented on the event saying: “Today’s event underscores the profound effect of meaningful partnerships on enhancing the lives of older New Yorkers. The Farmers Market Nutrition Program event highlights New York City’s dedication to its older adults, and the participation of volunteers and generous donors exemplifies the significance of collective commitment and community involvement.”
