At Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, Cinco de Mayo and Mother’s Day was celebrated across our older adult and early childhood development centers. The festive activities and music were accompanied by delicious meals and treats in fellowship with members and families. Communities gathered, laughed and sang the afternoon away in joyous occasions, making memories that will last a lifetime.
At the Hillcrest and Seaside Older Adult Centers, members and staff wanted to add a little spice to their Mother’s Day while also celebrating Cinco de Mayo, a yearly celebration that marks Mexico’s victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 led by General Ignacio Zaragoza. To further honor Mexico’s culture and heritage, everyone feasted on empanadas, chips and salsa and other sweet treats all to the tunes from the best DJs in town.
Families of the Catholic Charities Charles F. Murphy Early Childhood Development Center in Brooklyn honored mothers, aunts, grandmothers, sisters and those serving as mothers and role models during a family engagement activity! Participants enjoyed delicious refreshments, cake, raffle prizes, a beaded pin and a plant from their little ones! Our families bonded over good food, art and the joys of motherhood.
Our programs had a wonderful time at each of their celebrations. Click through the photo gallery below for more activities at the Hillcrest Older Adult Center, Howard Beach Older Adult Center, Seaside Older Adult Center and Charles F. Murphy Early Childhood Development Center.
