Brooklyn, NY – Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens raised $1.6 million on September 28 at the 2023 Bishop’s Humanitarian Awards Dinner. Held at Cipriani Wall Street, all proceeds benefit the more than 160+ programs and services of Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens.
At the event, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens presented John Rafferty, Watch Guard 24/7 LLC; Joseph J. Lynch, Nixon Peabody and Jesus Linares, BRS Business Relocation Service with the 2023 Bishop’s Humanitarian Award. Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens also presented William R. Guarinello, HeartShare Human Services of New York with the 2023 Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Service Award, and Mary Whelan, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens with the 2023 Ubi Caritas Award. Joe Piscopo, comedian, actor, musician, writer and talk show host, served as the Master of Ceremonies and entertainment for the evening.
The 2023 Bishop’s Humanitarian Award Dinner was co-chaired by the Most Reverend Robert J. Brennan, Bishop of Brooklyn, serving the people of Brooklyn and Queens. “The support that was raised at the Humanitarian Awards Dinner will ensure that Catholic Charities continues to serve the community on a daily basis”, said Bishop Brennan. “In a world of uncertainty, our neighbours in Brooklyn and Queens know that they can turn to us for the help they so desperately need.”
Reverend Monsignor Alfred P. LoPinto, Chief Executive Officer of Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, highlighted the significance of donors support to the work of Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens. ”Your support is so vital in enabling Catholic Charities to provide our neighbors with the helping hand they need to get back on their feet again.”
The Bishop’s Humanitarian Award is presented annually to an individual who shows personal commitment to the well-being of the residents of our Diocese. The Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Service Award, is presented in memory of Bishop Joseph Sullivan, an ardent advocate for social justice who dedicated more than 50 years to improving the lives of New Yorkers in need. The Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Service Award is given to honor others who have followed in his footsteps by devoting their lives to the people of Brooklyn and Queens. The Ubi Caritas Award is presented for distinguished, unselfish support of human services as a reminder that true charity is the response of the human heart to God’s love for all people.
Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens also presented the 2023 John J. Farrell Award to Yvette Cora, Oliver Donaldson, Deborah King, James Norcott, Isaura Pimentel and Maria Pinard who have reached 30 years of service at the agency.
