CCBQ held a festive Halloween gathering today at theCatholic Charities Therese Cervini Early Childhood Development Center in Queens. This was the kick-off registration event for our Casa de Apoyo group run by Catholic Charities Queens Community Center Case Manager, Debra Perez-Matos. There were many arts and crafts activities for families using recycled household products. Parents and children were really creative making ghosts out of paper plates, hand-print bats and snack monsters out of cheerios and apples.
“Parenting is a joy and a challenge, I am so pleased at the interest the parents of this community have shown in attending a group like this,” commented Debbie Hampson, Director of the Queens Community Center, “… not only are mothers coming out but fathers as well.”
Each family went home with a Fidelis Care stuffed dinosaur and a reading book provided by the Pajama Program.
This group is funded through the Maternity & Early Childhood Foundation (MECF). The parents enjoy participating and look forward to the upcoming year of workshops and activities.
