Catholic Charities Opens Boutique with Local Parish

Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens and St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish recently teamed up to open the Stella Maris Boutique in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn to help families. The boutique, located at the parish at 467 Court Street is operated by volunteers with the support of Catholic Charities staff and provides new and gently used (recently washed) donated clothing and accessories to those who might otherwise struggle to afford them.

The Stella Maris Boutique was established with the help of Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, who purchased and donated supplies to launch the store. Clients of Catholic Charities receive clothing coupons from their case managers, which they can use to shop at the boutique.

The store’s inventory includes items donated by community members, partner organizations, and local businesses. Parish volunteers sort and handle each piece with care, creating a shopping experience that is supportive and respectful, allowing clients to shop with dignity.

Since its opening earlier this Spring, the Stella Maris Boutique has served approximately 500 individuals. Community members interested in supporting the boutique are encouraged to volunteer, donate or learn more about this project.
