Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens Provides 900 Thanksgiving Turkeys for Families in Need

Today, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens distributed 900 Thanksgiving turkeys and food vouchers to families and individuals in need in Brooklyn and Queens during the Annual Turkey Giveaway this Thanksgiving Holiday. The distribution of the 12-14 lbs. turkeys was co-sponsored by the Offices of NYS Senator Zellnor Y. Myrie and Assemblywoman Diana C. Richardson.
 
The turkeys were donated by Alphonse & Maria Catanese and family in honor of their parents, the Offices of NYS Senator Zellnor Myrie and Assemblywoman Diana Richardson and E-J Electric Installation Co. The Farmers to Families Box Program also provided food locally sourced in New York to the families.
 
Food vouchers for turkey dinner fixings were also provided and distributed by Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens in increments of $25.00 for a total of $25,000.

Since the pandemic began, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has witnessed a 1000% increase in food requests and has provided much-needed food packages and services at the 20 Catholic Charities parish-based food pantries and an additional 27 affiliate pantries located throughout both boroughs. In total, the agency distributed over $400 million in food assistance in 2020.  In addition, Catholic Charities witnessed a 37 percent increase in clients in 2020, and continued to deliver mental health counseling, housing services, family services and early childhood education.
