The Astoria Pool Celebration, sponsored by Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, NYC Parks and Community Board One, gathers older adults, age 62 and older, and people with special needs to enjoy a beautiful day at the pool with music and awards presented to outstanding swimmers. The day included synchronized swim exhibitions by the Harlem Honeys and Bears and the Astoria Silver Swans as well as water games for all participants. Guest speakers included: Christina Yang, Associate Director of Older Adult Services at Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens; City Council Member Peter F. Vallone, Jr.; Lucille Hartmann, District Manager, Community Board One; and others. This annual festivity highlights the benefits of aquatic recreation for both seniors and people with special needs.
