On Wednesday, Aug. 6, CCBQ attended The Astoria Pool Celebration for older adults, 62 years and older, and people with special needs. This annual event is sponsored by Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, New York City Department of Parks & Recreation and Community Board One.
The event included great music provided by John Hughes, who regularly plays at Catholic Charities Pete McGuinness Senior Center and Catholic Charities DellaMonica – Steinway Senior Center. There was also synchronized swim exhibitions by the Harlem Honeys and Bears and the Astoria Silver Swans. The fun continued with water games and awards for outstanding swimmers.
CCBQ’s Christina Yang, Associate Director of Older Adult Services, served as one of the many guest speakers.
The event serves to highlight the benefits of aquatic recreation for both older adults and those with special needs.
