The Catholic Charities Community Center at Riverdale-Osborne Towers hosted its second-annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 26. Approximately 250 community residents attended, mostly from the Riverdale-Osborne Towers.
Activities at the festival included distribution of free fresh produce, healthy snacks and candy bags, pumpkin painting, a music DJ, and free raffles. The raffle prizes, pumpkins and giveaways were donated by CCBQ, the 69th and 73rd New York Police Department precincts and the Lions Club International.
At the event, staff from the Catholic Charities Brooklyn Community Center provided info on the many services we provide. Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens Human Resources Department was there to provide information on any open positions within the agency. Fidelis Care of New York screened for low-cost health insurance, the Met Council conducted Food Stamp screenings and Ready New York provided information on disaster preparedness.
Also in attendance were Catholic Charities Fatherhood Program and members of the Catholic Charities Riverway Senior Center.
The goal of the event was to promote and generate awareness for both CCBQ and other outside agencies that provide services to the communities of Brownsville and East New York.
To help Catholic Charities better help these areas in the future, each event participant was asked to complete a survey to gage what additional services the community would like to see us offer and if they would like to become involved as part of an advisory committee.
