Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens Celebrates the 2022 Graduating Class of the Caritas Training Center for Montessori Teacher Education
On Wednesday, July 13, the Catholic Charities Caritas Montessori Teacher Training Center celebrated the graduation of 12 of our own Early Childhood Education teachers, who now hold Certificates of Completion for learning Montessori Based teaching. As a National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS) member, our graduates earn college credit, which the New York State Department of Education accepts for Early Childhood Teacher Certification.
Established for Catholic Charities by the Reverend Joseph M. Sullivan and Sister Lorna Colin, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has proudly provided Montessori training and certification to our Early Childhood staff and others in the community for over 27 years. The Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens Caritas Program have taught over 470 students. Three hundred and forty completed Caritas with college credits, and two-thirds of the graduates are currently enrolled or have completed their college education. Approximately 83 have earned or are about to make their Master’s Degree – and one has earned her Ph.D.
Caritas classes take two years, and the graduates earn 27-33 free college credits, all accepted by New York colleges and universities where early childhood education is offered, such as St. Francis College.
With its high standards and emphasis on expert supervision, the teacher training program dramatically enhances the quality of the youngster’s first exposure to teaching and learning.
Now taught virtually, the Caritas Montessori Teacher Training Center trains educators in the Montessori Methodology and Philosophy. Students undergo an extensive two year-long program covering all aspects of the Montessori Method. Students learn step-by-step instruction on each material from Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, and Language as well as Classroom Management, Philosophy, and Childhood Development.
Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens is proud of our 2022 graduates and congratulates the first class of student remote learning for a job well-done.
