Congratulations are in order for our very own, Daniel Ng! He was recently honored at Workforce Professionals Training Institute (WPTI)’s third annual Fall Benefit. WPTI introduced a newly installed award recognizing the burgeoning talent and voice of our community, the WPTI Emerged Leader Award. Daniel Ng, Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) and Work, Learn, & Grow (WLG) unit manager for Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, was given the award for his leadership in connecting NYC young adults to employment through the Summer Youth Employment Program.
CCBQ’s SYEP plays a major role in the community because for most of our youth participants, this becomes their first job and we try to place them at a site that caters to their interests and skill sets. CCBQ has over 200 sites throughout the city. We train youth workers for six weeks in work readiness, resume writing, interviewing, and financial literacy. All of the participants are expected to work 20 to 25 hours a week and are paid minimum wage. Work, Learn, & Grow (WLG) takes place during the school year and appointments are scheduled between 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. t and app WorkWWbbetbb
