CCBQ’s Grandmothers as Mothers Again (GAMA) group recently attended the annual Brooklyn Grandparents Coalition Fall Forum 2017 at Long Island University in Brooklyn. This year’s theme was honoring our legacy and diversity while overcoming challenges. Many social service agencies provided information on kincare. Some of the workshops included Warning Signs and Solutions for Elder Abuse; Overcoming Challenges by Harnessing the Power Within; Our Streets, Our Stories: Archiving your Memories for the Future; Stress Reduction; and Self-Care, Eating Good and Staying Healthy.
GAMA is a support group for grandparents who are helping care for their grandchildren. GAMA is a safe place to meet, discuss, share, and plan. GAMA also engages in advocacy work, preventive workshops, community events, and also plant seeds in the lives of the children they care for.
