The New Joseph F. Collins Behavioral Health Center for Children and Families Commemorated with a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony in Woodhaven, Queens
(Queens, NY) On July 18, 2024, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens dedicated its new Joseph F. Collins Behavioral Health Center for Children and Families with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The center, located at 78-15 Jamaica Avenue in Woodhaven, Queens, is the first of its kind in the area committed to the health and well-being of children and families.
The Joseph F. Collins Behavioral Health Center is a comprehensive, certified community behavioral health clinic offering high-quality mental health services to residents of Queens and Brooklyn. Serving individuals and children five years of age and older, adolescents, and adults, the clinic uses various evidence-based practices, offering immediate intake appointments via open access for anyone seeking treatment.
The new center serves children and families with individual and group counseling, family counseling, and evaluation and treatment.
“We are proud to offer immediate screenings and risk assessments for a variety of mental health issues at this site,” said Monsignor Alfred P. LoPinto, president and chief executive officer, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens and Affiliate Agencies. “This new facility will play a vital role in mental health services, suicide prevention efforts, and crucial support for individuals in Woodhaven and the surrounding areas. We believe it will make a significant difference in many lives, and we’re thrilled to celebrate this milestone today.”
“I want to congratulate and thank Joseph Collins and the Collins family for your efforts,” said Senator Joseph P. Addabbo Jr., New York State Senate, 15th Senate District. “For 125 years, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens have been here to help people. When people reach out their hand looking for help, they want something on the other side to grab them and pull them in. That’s what Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has done and certainly what they continue to do here.”
“I’ve been privileged to work with Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens for over 35 years, witnessing firsthand their profound impact on our community,” shared Joseph F. Collins, III, Board of Trustees, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens. “Having our family name linked with this behavioral health center for children and families is a tremendous honor—one that humbles us deeply.”
Joseph F. Collins, III, retired in 2016 from his role as senior vice president and chief fiduciary officer at Neuberger Berman Trust Company, NA, after a distinguished career that began in 1972 with Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company. Previously, he was a senior trust officer at Republic National Bank of New York for 15 years. He earned a B.S. in Finance from Fairfield University, where he was also active on the Alumni Board. Collins has been a prominent figure in the banking sector, serving on several key committees, including as Chairman of the Trust and Estate Administration Committee for the NY Bankers Association Trust and Investment Division. Mr. Collins has devoted over 35 years to the Board of Trustees of Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens. He currently holds the position of treasurer and serves on multiple committees, earning the Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Service Award in 2017 for his dedication.
The dedication ceremony was attended by local community leaders including Monsignor Alfred P. LoPinto, president and chief executive officer, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens and Affiliate Agencies; Joseph F. Collins III, member, Catholic Charities board of trustees; Donovan Richards, Queens Borough President; Senator Joseph P. Addabbo Jr., 15th Senate District; and Assemblymember Jenifer Rajkumar, Assembly District 38.
