On Monday, Oct. 28, a representative from Just Say Yes to Fruits and Vegetables (JSY) visited Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens Our Lady of Solace Food Pantry in Coney Island, N.Y.
Approximately 20 pantry visitors received information on healthy food preparation, which included tips on portion size and the importance of incorporating fresh fruits and vegetables in their daily diet. The JSY representative also gave our pantry visitors giveaways, which included a recyclable shopping bag.
Monday’s visit from Just Say Yes is the start to a nine-month partnership with CCBQ’s Our Lady of Solace Food Pantry and the organization. JSY will send a representative once a month to educate CCBQ’s pantry visitors.
In addition to food pantry services, CCBQ’s Our Lady of Solace Food Pantry also provides case management services. Case managers at Our Lady of Solace have seen an increased need for services, especially in the wake of Super Storm Sandy in 2012.
