Saints Joachim and Anne Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Celebrate Newly Constructed Chapel

Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY, December 9, 2024 – Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens is thrilled to announce the grand opening of the new permanent chapel at Saints Joachim and Anne Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Saints Joachim and Anne is now the only Catholic-sponsored  Nursing and Rehabilitation facility in Brooklyn to possess a dedicated Chapel and prayer room for its residents and staff.

A dedication Mass was held on December 9, coinciding with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. This Mass honored Mary’s special connection to her parents, Saints Joachim and Anne. Following the Mass, a tree-lighting ceremony took place on the residence’s front lawn. Attendees included residents, family members, staff, and board and community members, who enjoyed an Italian meal prepared by the renowned Gargiulo’s Restaurant and were treated to a musical performance during dinner by Xaverian High School’s Jazz Combo.

This addition, with beautifully installed stained-glass window art and a serene, conjoining room, aims to provide a tranquil area for prayer and reflection for the nursing and rehabilitation center residents, their families, and staff alike.

“This is the first time in the history of Saints Joachim and Anne that we have a permanent chapel and prayer room, whereas historically, our patients would attend mass in a multi-purpose room,” said Msgr. Alfred LoPinto, President and CEO of Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens and affiliate agencies. “The installation of the chapel and renovations throughout the facility represent an upgrade of the facility and have resulted in a more appealing environment for our patients and their families. Perhaps most significant is the design and placement of the new chapel directly in the lobby, which brings greater visibility to the Catholic identity of Saints Joachim and Anne.”

“It’s a wonderful facility, it is a great place for you, and I am here to say thank you to everyone who is providing you with such a great service,” New York State District 46 Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny said at the service. “This celebration, enjoying the holidays, is a wonderful season where we take care of our loved ones, our friends, and this is just a beautiful, beautiful time of year.”

Saints Joachim and Anne Nursing & Rehabilitation Center thank all the residents and family members of current and past residents who joined in the celebration of Mass and the marking of the Christmas season.
