As part of the Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens Volunteer Program, students from St. Francis College volunteered their time at our Saints Joachim & Anne Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Brooklyn. Led by Professor Emily Horowitz, over 20 students came out to beautify the circular driveway in the front of the building. They took on the large task of destroying 50 shrubs surrounding the area. The shrubs were destroyed during last year’s Super Storm Sandy and residents of the facility did not want to spend time in the ruined area. The next steps in this volunteer initiative will be to remove the roots, and then plant new flowers in the spring time. The residents were very excited about the new area and appreciate all the work of our volunteers. To learn more about our volunteer program, please click here.
