The Custom House, a local bar and kitchen in Downtown Brooklyn, recently hosted its 12th annual toy drive in collaboration with St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church. The annual event is designed to benefit Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens for Santa’s Toy Shops. At last week’s toy distribution, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens already served over 1,600 children at two toy distributions held at St. Vincent Ferrer Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn. The Custom House’s toy drive with help from St. Charles Borromeo began on November 24, and encouraged patrons to bring in an unwrapped toy or gift card for children between the ages of 2 and 14. In return, the bar offered a complimentary beer as a token of appreciation. To show gratitude for The Custom House’s generosity each year, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens honored the local eatery with a plaque that recognized 12 years of changing lives through their annual Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens Toy Drive and Santa Toy Shops. The plaque will be hung up on site to share with their patrons. The toys collected during the drive will be donated to Santa’s Toy Shops and will be distributed this week at a Diocese of Brooklyn parish located in Corona Queens, ensuring they get into the hands of children and families most in need.
